Workshop on Applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Promote Digital Transformation in Agriculture

On the morning of August 31 in Dak Lak, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Lak Province, in collaboration with the Western Highlands Agro-Forestry Scientific and Technical Institute (WASI) and agricultural technology company Enfarm, organized the workshop “Applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Promote Digital Transformation in Agriculture.” The event aimed to explore breakthrough technologies that can help advance the agricultural sector while ensuring sustainable livelihoods for farmers.

In Vietnam, the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in agriculture is still relatively new, but it has attracted significant attention from the Government, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and businesses due to its advantages over traditional farming methods. Promoting AI in agricultural production to enhance productivity and product quality is considered a key step for Vietnamese agricultural products to reach international markets, generate greater economic benefits for farmers, and align with the trend of efficient and sustainable agricultural development.

Enfarm, an agricultural technology company, is a pioneer in applying AI to its Smart Nutrient Monitoring Device, designed to address the long-standing problem of fertilizer overuse. The device helps farmers reduce farming costs, increase crop yields, prevent soil degradation, and maintain a sustainable ecosystem. Enfarm’s AI system evaluates four interconnected factors—Soil, Water, Crops, and Fertilizer—against agronomic thresholds, then provides tailored recommendations on when to fertilize, what type to use, and how much to apply, optimizing both economic returns and environmental protection.

The Enfarm Smart Nutrient Monitoring Device has been tested and verified by WASI, achieving laboratory-grade accuracy that meets ISO standards. Thanks to its precision and technological innovation, the device was named among the Top 5 winning projects at the AI Awards 2024 and recognized as a Vietnam Best Product 2024, organized by the Institute of Economics and Culture in collaboration with the Consumer Protection Center.

At the workshop, Dr. Nguyen Nhu Cuong, Director General of the Department of Crop Production, and Dr. Nguyen Quoc Toan, Director of the Center for Agricultural Digital Transformation and Statistics under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, together with Mr. Nguyen Van Ha, Deputy Director of the Dak Lak Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Western Highlands Agro-Forestry Scientific and Technical Institute (WASI), and agricultural technology company Enfarm delivered speeches and scientific presentations. They emphasized the importance of applying AI technology during the agricultural digital transformation process, aiming toward the goal of developing green and sustainable agriculture in Vietnam.
