Enfarm introduces ‘smart fertilization’ technology into agricultural production

By combining a hardware device with a smartphone application, Enfarm helps farmers reduce fertilizer costs, increase crop yields, and maintain sustainable agricultural practices.

Speaking at the Open Innovation Day held in Ho Chi Minh City on October 26, Mr. Do Dung Nguyen, representative of Enfarm Agritech, shared that Enfarm’s smart fertilization technology is designed to optimize fertilizer application. It also optimizes irrigation volumes based on different soil types, improving the economic efficiency of industrial crops.

With the combination of a hardware device and a mobile app, Enfarm enables farmers to know when to fertilize, what type of fertilizer to use, and how much is just enough. This increases productivity while reducing fertilizer costs and minimizing the amount of excess fertilizer lost to the environment.

Experimental results from the Western Highlands Agroforestry Scientific and Technical Institute show that for coffee plants, Enfarm’s smart fertilization technology can increase yields by up to 20 percent and reduce fertilizer costs by 20 percent.

At the current coffee price of 65 million VND per ton of green beans and an average yield of 3.5 tons per hectare, a 20 percent yield increase translates to an additional 45 million VND per year. Smart fertilization also helps each farming household save around 6 million VND per hectare, which can lead to a 1.5 to 2 times increase in income.

Mr. Nguyen added that Enfarm Agritech’s vision moving forward is toward fair trade. Enfarm’s technology not only helps farmers become agricultural experts, but also allows them to understand market trends and access new markets.

“Most importantly, with technology, farmers can connect with traders, businesses, and even end consumers. That is the mission Enfarm is committed to,” said Mr. Nguyen.
